2016 Swiftwater Rescue Clinic

Clinic Dates: August 6-7, 2016
Registration Deadline: July 15th
Instructor: Don Beyer, ACA certified - Level 5 SWR
Location: Mt Nebo, WV (River to be determined based on water conditions at the time.)
Clinic Fee: $50 (Includes 10 feet of nylon webbing, 6 feet of prussic cord, and 1 carabiner.)
Class Requirements: Maximum of 10 students (minimum of 8)

We must have 8 paid registrations by July 15th, to do the class.

Novice Paddlers are welcome, but ideally, all students should be at least Intermediate Paddlers, 18 years of age or older. Some whitewater paddling experience is preferred because it helps students relate to issues that can occur on the river. If you're in doubt, call me. (If you've taken the clinic before, you are welcome to register for a refresher. New students will be given priority, however.)

The course can be physically demanding at times, but participation in each exercise is by choice.

You do not need to be a member of WVWA to participate in the clinic.

Day 1 will cover rescue concepts and organization, swimming, wading, and the use of throw bags and rescue life vests.

Day 2 will cover boat unpinning, anchors, Z-drags, in-boat entrapment, foot entrapment, and various other rescue scenarios.
